How to move ROBOTILL to another computer

The ROBOTILL Point of Sale system can be used on a single computer or several computers (tills and back office computers). This article will explain how to move your ROBOTILL Server (the single computer or the main computer where the database is installed) to another computer.

Note if you are only using one computer, then your only computer is also your ROBOTILL server where the database is stored.

Moving the database to the new computer

  1. Do a backup on your old server. Click here to see how to do a backup.
  2. Install ROBOTILL on the new computer. Click here to see how to install ROBOTILL.
  3. On the new computer, restore the database using the backup file of the first computer. Click here to see how to do a restore in ROBOTILL.

Linking other computers to the new server

If you are using multiple computers the other computers will need to link to your new server. If you replaced your server you can just use the same computer name as the previous server. You will then not need to take any steps to re-link the other computers.

If your new server has a different computer name, then you can follow these steps to link the other computers to the new server.

Moving your licence to the new computer

If you are using the full edition you purchased a licence for a specific computer. You can move your licence to another computer before your licence period expires, but there are some conditions. See the  'Moving a licence to another computer' section in the ROBOTILL EULA.

The keys that you got when you purchased your licence will not work. You can just email ROBOTILL support and explain that you are replacing your computer and need new keys.

Making a copy of your database for a new store

Setting up a new point of sale system can take some time. You need to create categories, departments, products, print layout, etc. If you already have a store (shop or restaurant) that is using ROBOTILL and you want to start a new one with similar products and setup, you can do the following:

You could use the ROBOTILL Branch Module as it can publish setup and products to branches - but if you are not really going to transfer stock between branches and you just want to copy the data once-off, then you can simply do the following (without needing to purchase the Branch Module):
  1. Follow the instructions above for 'Moving the database to a new computer'.
  2. You will then have all the products, print layout, etc. - but you will also have all the sales. To remove all the sales, go to ROBOTILL Manager > Tools > Database > Reset Database. You can then select to only clear all the sales (this will clear the sales, payments and drawer data).
  3. All that is left then is to delete the old users and create new ones for the new shop / restaurant.
If you get stuck, remember ROBOTILL Support is free!
